FootfallCam Centroid™

FootfallCam Centroid™ processes up to eight HD full-motion video streams in real-time and can be deployed as a low-power edge intelligent video analytics platform for Network Video Recorders (NVR), smart cameras, and IoT gateways. Applications include human detection, pose estimation and car detection.

FootfallCam Centroid uses a LED backlight to indicate the power status of the Centroid.

3.1 Basic Centroid Details 

3.1.1 Centroid Info

STEP 1 - Access to Setup Wizard page. See 3.0.1 Accessing the device.

STEP 2 - Fill in the centroid name.

3.1.2 Time Zone Setting

STEP 1 - Access to Device. See 3.0.1 Accessing the device.

STEP 2 - Click on Settings tab.

STEP 3 - Navigate to section Time Zone Setting.

STEP 4 - Complete the process by entering all the required fields and click on Save.

3.2 Centroid Network Setting 

3.2.1 Updating corporate network

When users want to change their IP settings on their corporate network, the IP details inputted on the FootfallCam Centroid must be updated as well. If the IP details is not updated on the FootfallCam Centroid prior to the change of the corporate IP network settings, the Centroid will not be able to upload visitor counting data to the FootfallCam Analytic Manager.

1. Access to the device. See 3.0.1 Accessing the Centroid.

   Note

   A user may do this remotely if they can replicate the stores' internal network.

2. Update the IP setting

   Once the user has access into the FootfallCam Centroid, the user will need to overwrite the existing IP detail with their new setting.
   
   

   1. The user will need to navigate to the Settings tab on the bottom of the page.

   2. Select the option Static IP.

   3. Once the user has inputted the new IP settings, click Save to update the settings.

   4. Reboot the Centroid.

   5. When the new IP setting is applied, the FootfallCam Centroid will appear as offline due to unmatched IP setting between the device and the corporate network.

      Note

      If the new IP setting is inputted incorrectly and saved, the user will not be able to remotely access the FootfallCam to update it. 

3. Update internal network settings

   Once the FootfallCam Centroid has been configured for the new IP setting, the FootfallCam will appear as offline and will be unavailable for remote access. The user can then configure their corporate IP settings to match the settings inputted into the FootfallCam Centroid.

3.2.2 Redirecting the server address

When users would like to use a new server for data access from the FootfallCam, the FootfallCam Centroid manager must be logged in onsite to update the new server address. Once the server address is updated, the device must be re-allocated on the new server prior to data display.

1. Access to the device. See 3.0.1 Accessing the Centroid.
   
   

   Note

   A user may do this remotely if they can replicate the stores' internal network. 

2. Update the server address - Once the user has access into the FootfallCam Centroid, the user will need to overwrite the existing server address with the new detail.

   
   

   1. The user will need to navigate to the Settings tab on the bottom of the page.

   2. Under the option Connect to Analytic Software, enter the desired address of the new server where data will be streamed to. To use FootfallCam cloud server, please enter www.footfallcounter.com.

   3. Once the server address is updated, Reboot the Centroid.

3.2.3 APN Configuration

(Only applicable to Centroid Outdoor)

If the Centroid Outdoor cannot connect to the internet after inserting the SIM card, kindly configure the APN settings according to your SIM card provider.

1. Access the Centroid setup wizard page. 

2. Navigate to <CentroidIP>/ApnSetting.html, for example, 192.168.4.1/ApnSetting.html.

3. Enter the APN name and click the "UpdateApnName" button. For example, the APN name for Vodafone Ireland is live.vodafone.com. You can search for the APN name for your SIM card online, such as on APN.how. 

4. Wait for a few minutes while the service restarts. Once restarted, the Centroid Outdoor should be able to connect to the internet. This can be verified by checking the indicator light next to the SIM card holder. Blue light indicates a successful internet connection.

3.3 Software Pairing Code

3.3.1 Get Pairing Code

To get the pairing code, please login to v9.footfallcam.com
After login, go to Settings -> Site -> Edit and you will see the pairing code

3.3.2 Insert Pairing Code

Insert the Pairing Code and Click "Save"

Click "Proceed" and wait for around 2 hour/s for the Counter to be allocate

To know if Counter is allocated, check the following:

3.4 CCTV Bindings

3.4.1 Add CCTV Bindings

STEP 1 - Access to Setup Wizard page. See 3.0.1 Accessing the Centroid.

STEP 2 - Click on Connections tab.

STEP 3 - Click on Add in CCTV Bindings tab.

Refer to the following diagram for the breakdown of each field in a full RTSP URL.

STEP 4 -  Click on Add to apply the changes. If there is error, please see Troubleshooting. When CCTV is added successfully, you should see "active" status like below.

3.4.2 CCTV Default Relative URL

3.4.3 CCTV Troubleshooting

1. IP or port or relative path is wrong.
   Please provide the correct IP address, rtsp port number and relative path. If rtsp port is not provided, it will be assumed as default port 554.

    

2. Username or password is wrong.
   Please provide the correct username and password. They are case-sensitive and can include special characters as well.

    

3. RTSP is not valid.
   Please verify that rtsp url is complete, especially the relative path. Check that the rtsp stream can run in video player like VLC Player.

    

4. RTSP is not readable. 
   RTSP url is valid, but there is no data streaming in the url. Check that the rtsp stream can run in video player like VLC Player.

    

5. Unknown error code.

   Please contact technical support from FootfallCam.

Tools Required

Accessing the Centroid:

Ethernet

• To find the IP of Centroid, install and open FFC Pro2 & Centroid Scanning Tool
• Type the start and end IP of your network. e.g. when the IP of the PC is 192.168.88.175, we will proceed to scan 192.168.88.x range. Start IP will be 192.168.88.1 and the end IP will be 192.168.88.255.
• Click Start Scan, you should able to see FootfallCam devices listed:
  
• Visit the IP in the browser to access the Centroid's Device Control Panel
  

WiFi

If your network does not support DHCP, Centroid will be unable to get an IP. In that case, we can connect to the Centroid's WiFi to configure it.

• Turn on the wifi and connect to Counter_XXXXX where the last 5 digits is the last 5 digits of the serial, contact Footfallcam for the password.
  
• Visit 192.168.4.1 in the browser to access the Centroid's Device Control Panel
  

Network Settings

Steps to configure networking settings differ based on the site network environment

*Ideally, Centroid should be in the same LAN as the CCTVs, NVR/DVR devices to be added to Centroid for footfall data collection.

**Note: If the site network IP address range is 192.168.8.1-255, please contact FootfallCam support to assist as it clashes with the Centroid internal IP addresses.

DHCP

• No manual configuration required, Centroid is in DHCP mode by default, just connect up its ethernet port to the router or switch

• If internet access is available, Centroid should be blinking blue, green otherwise.

STATIC IP

• If the site's network does not support DHCP, the Centroid will not be able to obtain an IP address. Access the Centroid's device control panel using the WiFi method mentioned above.
• Login and navigate to Config > Network
  
• Select Static IP and enter the IP address, Subnet Mask and Gateway. Click save.
  
• The device will be rebooted
• After rebooting, if the static IP is valid and the Centroid can obtain internet connection, it should be blinking blue, green otherwise.

Device Allocation

• Provided there is internet access on site (i.e. Centroid is blinking blue light), you may proceed to allocate the device to the FootfallCam server.
• Make sure your laptop ethernet port is connected to the same router or switch as the Centroid.
• If Centroid is in the default DHCP mode, you may use the FFC Pro2 & Centroid Scanning Tool to find out the IP address of Centroid. For static IP, you already know the IP address.
• Visit the IP in the browser to access the Device Control Panel. Login and go into `Config`page, under `System` tab, enter the desired Device Name and the Site Pairing Code (you may get it from V9 portal, see here) accordingly. Then click on the `Save` button to apply the setting and pair the device.

• The Centroid should be in static blue light once it is allocated successfully.

Bind CCTVs to Centroid for Footfall Data Collection

• Go to the `Camera` page, then click on `Add Camera` button to start binding CCTVs. Enter the username, password, camera name, IP address, Vendor and Model (optional) accordingly. See image below for an example:
  
• Vendor and Model is optional, it helps to pre-fill the `Relative URL Path` below according to the format of the selected vendor. If you know the `Relative URL Path` for your device, you may skip this.
• For the `Relative URL Path`, it is referring to the URL portion in the RTSP link after the port number. Using FootfallCam device as an example, the RTSP link is rtsp://<ip_address>:554/channel=1&stream=1.sdp?, so its relative url path would be `channel=1&stream=1.sdp?` as shown in the image. If `Vendor` is selected, this will be pre-filled, you may modify it if the relative url path for your device is different from the pre-filled one.
• You may use the `Check Live Stream` button to confirm the RTSP link connection is okay. Then click on the `Add Camera` button to save the CCTV settings.
• The added CCTV would appear in the `Connected Camera` list as shown below:
  
• Go back to the `Live` page, you should see the CCTV video stream you just bind is displayed.
  

Note:

• For FootfallCam devices to access and process live RTSP video streams from on-site NVR/DVR and CCTV cameras, all devices must reside in the same local subnet.
• If the FootfallCam device and the CCTV system are on different subnets, and subnet separation must remain, please consult your network administrator to add inter-VLAN routing or static routes between the two subnets.

Site Network Requirements for using FootfallCam Centroid

Firewall Whitelisting Requirements

• To ensure uninterrupted communication between FootfallCam Centroid and FootfallCam Cloud services, please ensure the following IP addresses and ports are whitelisted in the site's network firewall, proxy, and VPN security rules.

Network Configuration for CCTV Integration

• For FootfallCam Centroid to access and process live RTSP video streams from on-site NVR/DVR and CCTV cameras, all devices must reside in the same local subnet.

• If the Centroid device and the CCTV system are on different subnets, and subnet separation must remain, please consult your network administrator to add inter-VLAN routing or static routes between the Centroid subnet and the CCTV subnet

• Please inform FootfallCam support team if the site network is using 192.168.8.x subnet as this clashes with Centroid device internal router IP address.

Proxy Server Considerations

• If the site network enforces internet access through a proxy server, please configure the Proxy Settings on the Centroid device control panel accordingly, see an example below:

• If the proxy uses SSL inspection, the network administrator may need to whitelist the Centroid's cloud domain to prevent TLS handshake errors.

Bandwidth Usage Estimation

Entrance Counting ONLY

• 2MB/day (12hr operation), assume hourly 100 people In&Out footfall activities.

Path Map Playback Enabled

• On average 60MB/day (12hr operation), assume 20 people being tracked actively in the liveview.

Add CCTVs to Centroid DVR/NVR

This section details the instructions for adding CCTVs to the DVR/NVR of FootfallCam Centroid for video footage recording and management.

*For this section to proceed smoothly, you should get ready with the credentials and RTSP link of CCTVs or NVR/DVR devices on the site. Consult the reseller or customer network admin for the required info.

**If you intend to bind FootfallCam Pro1, you must finish the IP setup for Pro1 first.

• The control panel of DVR or NVR can access via the the IP address of Centroid with the port 20080 (e.g.: http://<ip_address>:20080).
• Once logged in, go to the `Remote Setting`  tab, on the side bar, select `Advanced`  > `IP Channels`  to go into the UI for adding CCTVs. See illustration below:
  
• If you do not see the `IP Channels`  option, select `Turbo Mode`  instead, and then tick the 3rd option with `Net 1080p`  column = `16` . Click on `Save`  to apply the setting. The DVR/NVR will auto reboot, relogin again after 10 to 20 seconds. After that, you should see the `IP Channels`  option.
• To add a CCTV, select the desired Channel, enable it and click on `Add`  button to open up a form that prompt you for the CCTV details, as shown below:
  
• Inside the form, please select `Device Type`  (IPC for IP Cameras, i.e. CCTV; or DVR/HVR) accordingly. For protocol, choose `RTSP`  by default. Then fill in the RTSP link under the `Main Stream` and `Extra Stream` textfield. If you are using FootfallCam CCTV, the main and extra stream would be in following format:
  • Main stream: rtsp://<ip_address>:554/channel=1&stream=0.sdp?
  • Extra stream: rtsp://<ip_address>:554/channel=1&stream=1.sdp?

• Then, enter the username and password of the CCTV. For FootfallCam device, the default username is `admin`  and password is `meta888` . Click `OK`  to confirm adding the CCTV.
  

• Once the form is closed, you should see the added CCTV under the `Network Configuration List` , tick the checkbox and click on the `Save`  button to confirm the addition. See image below. Then, repeat this step by selecting the next Channel and enable it to add the next CCTV.
  
• After adding all the CCTVs, you may go back to the `Live`  page, and view the live stream to confirm the CCTVs are indeed adding successfully.
  

Enabling Motion-Triggered Recording on NVR/DVR

This section details the steps to enable motion-triggered video recordings on NVR/DVR

1. Under the `Alarm` tab, make sure the `Video Motion` alarm type is checked.
   
2. Go to the `Remote Setting` tab, under `Record Conf.`, select `Timing` for Record Mode, adjust the recording length based on your requirements, check the `Detect` column and click `Save`.
   
3. Next, go to the `Alarm` section of the `Remote Setting` tab, select `All` for Channel and toggle the `Enable` button. Make sure the `RECORD` field of Motion Detect window is checked, then click `Save`.
   
4. For motion-triggered recording to work, the IP cameras have to be added using `NETIP` protocol. Go to the `Advanced` section, under the `IP Channels` tab, look for the `Add` button to add a new IP camera to the desired channel.
5. Inside the `Remote Channel` window, make sure `NETIP` is selected as the protocol, and use `34567` as the port number. Fill in the IP address, username and password accordingly. Then, click `OK` to save the changes.
   
6. To retrieve the recorded motion-triggered video recordings, go to the `Playback` tab, choose `By Time` for QueryMode, `Detect Record` for Type, input the start and end time accordingly, then select the desired Channel to retrieve the recorded videos for review.

6.0.1 Soft Reboot

6.1 Accessing Live View RTSP

6.1.1 Live View

Centroid streams its live view via this RTSP url
rtsp://local_ip:8554/ds-test
Replace local_ip with the local ip address of the centroid device.

To view it, open a network stream player (eg. VLC player) on another device in the same network, and play the RTSP url.

To store it, configure a DVR in the same network, and connect to the RTSP url.

6.2 Centroid Indication Light and Troubleshooting

6.3 Centroid Patch Upgrade

STEP 1 - Click the Upgrade button in the Home Page.

STEP 2 - Click the Check Now to check the patch version.

STEP 3.1 - If the current patch is not in latest version, it will show this. Click the Upgrade button to upgrade the patch.

• A V9 Account with a bound Centroid DVR/NVR.
• Port 34567 must be port forwarded on the router or allowed on VPN to which the DVR/NVR is connected.
• The FootfallCamVMS app installed on an Android device (App available at: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.footfallcamvms).

1. Login into V9 account

To retrieve DVR/NVR details from the server, please log in to your V9 account via the Keycloak portal as shown in the image below.

If the login is successful, you will be redirected to the Home page to select the serial number of the DVR/NVR you wish to connect. If a valid DVR/NVR is bound to your V9 account, tap the `Select a Site` dropdown. The list at the bottom will display the serial number of the DVR/NVR. Please refer to the image below.

2. Select Connection Method

You will be prompted to select a connection method for the DVR/NVR as shown in the image below:

There are multiple ways to connect to the DVR/NVR.

• IP/Domain Address: Ensure that port 34567 is already forwarded on your router or VPN.

• Cloud ID: To connect via Cloud ID, Securus Cloud must be enabled in the DVR/NVR Control Panel. By default, it is enabled.

3. Viewing the Camera Feed

Upon successful connection, the grid view will initialize with the respective channel numbers. You can select a 1-column, 2-column, or 3-column grid view. Tap on a specific channel to view it.

You will then be redirected to a page where you can switch between Live View and Playback.

• Live View: Displays the real-time feed of the selected channel in a larger view.

• Playback: Provides access to historical recordings on the DVR/NVR for the specific channel, as shown in the image below:

Using the Timeline A date picker and timeline are located below the video stream.

• Timeline: Drag the vertical bar or simply tap on a specific time to watch the recorded footage. The video stream will update to the selected time.

• Date Picker: Tap the date picker to select the specific date for which you wish to view recorded footage, as shown below:

4. Log Out

To log out of your V9 account, return to the Home page, tap the menu button (the three horizontal bars icon), and select Logout as shown in the image below:

Centroid Monitor Set up

This section provides instructions for setting up the Centroid monitor.

1. Plug in mouse and HDMI cable

2. Once the channels are displayed, the setup is complete.

Navigate to PlayBack Video Function

After set up the monitor, Right-Click and choose Main menu function

*You can also directly select Playback instead of entering the Main Menu.

A pattern password screen will appear. Please follow the pattern shown in the right image (default password).

Click the Playback button to proceed and you have finished this section.

DVR Video PlayBack function Guideline

This section explains how to use the Playback function and its features.

• After clicking Playback, two boxes will appear

  • The bottom box is for selecting the date.
  • The top box is for selecting the channel.

*A maximum of four channels can be selected at the same time.

The box below shows the timeline.

Below the timeline is the time unit selector, where you can choose:

• 24 hours, 2 hours, 1 hour, 30 minutes and you can drag the timeline to move to the desired time period.

Playback Filters (Green & Red)

There are two colours indicating motion detection levels on the timeline:

Green- Represents timelines with less motion detection.

Red - Represents timelines with more motion detection.

1. Centroid wifi SSID is not able to be found on mobile devices.

   1. Make sure the wifi dongle is plugged in firmly. Try rebooting Centroid.

2. Do not know the RTSP URL of their CCTV or IP camera.

   1. Look at https://www.footfallcam.com/people-counting/knowledge-base/chapter-3-centroid-configuration/#3-3-2-cctv-default-relative-url to see if the existing camera brand is on the list.

   2. If not in the camera brand list, kindly refer to the camera vendor, or try to look it up on the internet.

3. What happens after the installation?

   1. Similar to counter, Centroid also requires tuning and verification based on video recordings. 

   2. The tuning process takes 3 - 5 working days, depending on the number of cameras bound.

   3. After tuning, Centroid will then start counting data.

4. Can the wifi dongle be unplugged after the installation?

   1. Not an issue, the wifi dongle is not used for any counting or wifi analytics purposes. However, if the installer were to revisit the centroid due to misconfiguration or other issues, they must bring the dongle.

   2. Generally, we recommend leaving the wifi dongle plugged in.

Counting Data

1. Where can the end user see Centroid data?

   1. Behind the scenes, Centroid is using Pulsar to upload data. Hence, data is only available in Custom Report tab in Portal.

   2. It is not available in Analytics Center, Heatmap Report, or any other place. Those are for counter's data.

2. What data is available?

   1. In/Out counting data and occupancy data are readily available.

   2. Demographic analysis, vehicle type detection, heatmap data, etc are still work in progress.

Camera Model Compatibility

1. How to verify if a camera model is compatible with centroid?

   1. Get the exact full camera model, for example, Hikvision camera model DS-2CD3343G0-I

   2. Google the exact model and obtain the spec sheet. Check if it supports RTSP protocol, for example

      Hikvision: https://prnt.sc/1upuplj

      Axis: https://prnt.sc/1upv3iw

      Dahua: https://prnt.sc/1upv7h4 

   3. Check that camera lens do not have significant distortion. We do not support 360-degree panoramic view, wide angle lenses, or fish eye lens. There are 2 ways to check:

      1. Search the exact model on youtube, and check the live view from demo/unboxing videos.

         1. OK

            

         2. NO fisheye lens (because of circular distortion)

            

         3. NO wide angle or panoramic lens (because of distortion at 2 sides, and unusual aspect ratio, width >> height)

            

         4. Or, check the horizontal FOV (field of view) in the spec sheet. Must be 30 - 120 degrees.
